The Ghostbed is one of the latest newcomers to the online mattress industry, and it is really allowing people to have a frighteningly good sleep. This mattress comes from Nature’s Sleep, a veteran mattress company that has been crafting high-quality sleep products, including mattresses, mattress toppers, and bedding, for more than 10 years.
The Ghostbed was developed using more than 35 years of design experience in the mattress industry. Their mattresses are made with only the highest quality materials, and they are constructed with the most skilled American craftsmanship. Made from a combination of gel memory foam and the latex, the Ghostbed is designed to provide a balanced feeling for the average sleeper. It is also designed to offer a cool sleeping experience and spinal alignment to provide the highest level of comfort.
The makers of Ghostbed are committed to providing their users with the best night of sleep, and ensure their satisfaction by backing their mattresses with a 20-year warranty; one of the longest warranties in the mattress industry. The long warranty, combined with the risk-free 101 Night Sleep Trial really shows how committed the manufacturers are to ensuring their customers are happy with the product.
The Ghostbed also comes with a matching wood foundation that is designed to offer optimal support for the mattress. This is something that no other company in the online mattress industry offers.

Below is our final score of the Ghostbed mattress based on multiple criteria that we use when testing all of our mattresses.
What’s It Made From…
The Ghostbed is made from three layers of high-quality materials, including:
- Aerated latex foam
- Gel memory foam
- High-density support foam
Each of the three layers were combined to make a mattress that is a total of 11 inches thick.
The Top Layer
The top layer of the Ghostbed is made of 1.5 inches of aerated latex foam, which is designed to keep the mattress cool, and also provides it with its softness and bounce. The top layer of the mattress also helps to relieve pressure points, and is highly responsive, offering exceptional comfort.
The Middle Layer
Made of two inches of gel memory foam, the middle layer of the Ghostbed offers deep compression support and even more pressure relief. The gel memory foam is responsive but less so than the aerated latex foam, which is why this material is placed in the middle of the bed. By infusing the memory foam with gel, the middle layer aids in preventing heat retention, keeping the mattress cool.
The Bottom Layer
The final layer of the Ghostbed is comprised of 7.5 inches of high-density support foam. It is because of the high-density nature of this foam that it is used as the foundation, as it supports the upper foam layers.
The cover serves as a fundamental part of the mattress, as it wraps the entire mattress and secures the three layers of foam. Made of 100 percent polyester, the cover of the Ghostbed is soft, stretchy and plush. What we really liked about the cover was that it returned to its original shape almost immediately after we pulled on it, giving it a snug fit around the entire mattress. The side panels of the cover are made of a blend of polyester and polypropylene, which offers extra support and helps to protect the mattress. Additionally, though the cover is sturdy, it is thin, which adds to the overall breathability of the mattress.
Hands on Review
The Ghostbed can only be bought online, which simplifies the purchase process; however, this means that you cannot try the mattress out before you buy it. For that reason, we wanted to provide a hands-on review of the mattress. In this section of our buyer’s guide, we examine specific criteria that impact the overall quality of the mattress, and the type of sleep that it will provide. Here, we examine the following criterion:
On a firmness scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the firmest, we give the Ghostbed an overall score of 6.5. In other words, it is medium in firmness, which means that it will meet the needs of most sleepers. However, we want to point out that when we first laid on it, the mattress felt like it was more of a 7; but, after lying on it for a bit, the softness did increase.
The Ghostbed claims that it offers exceptional comfort, and we have to say that this claim is true. We found that it was exceptionally comfortable. The latex responds immediately, preventing the feeling of being ‘stuck’ in the mattress. The memory foam in the center of the mattress has a slower response time, but once it does respond, it adapts to the shape of the body, contouring it perfectly. The latex and the memory foam work together in unison to provide exceptional comfort.
There is also little motion transfer, which further enhances the overall comfort of the mattress.
Pain Relief and Support
The Ghostbed is designed to properly align the spine and provide pressure point relief. The top and middle layers contour to the body, and the bottom layer supports the top foam layers, thus supporting the entire body. The result of this design is improved support for the spine, thereby reducing pain that can occur while sleeping on other mattresses. Though the mattress does get softer as you lie on it, it doesn’t lose any of its support. Overall, we found that the Ghostbed offered better than average support.
Heat retention refers to the amount of body heat that the mattress holds. When heat retention is high, the sleeping surface becomes warm, reducing comfort. The Ghostbed has a low amount of heat retention. The aerated latex foam of the upper layer of the mattress allows for great airflow, and that airflow is enhanced by the cover. The center layer of gel infusion of the memory foam in the center of the mattress also works to prevent heat retention.
Off-gassing refers to the odor that a mattress emits. This is often a problem with foam mattresses because of the chemicals that are used in the production of the foam. We did not notice any odor with the Ghostbed. That’s because the company doesn’t use any harmful chemicals in the production of their mattress, and it is harmful chemicals that typically cause off-gassing and create an odor. If you do notice any smell with the Ghostbed, we recommend opening it in a well-ventilated area and allowing it to sit for a while. The smell will dissipate in no time (though we doubt you will experience any odor.)
The intimacy level of the Ghostbed is a little weak. Because it is comprised of foam, it has a very low bounce back rate. While minimal bounce back is great for sleeping, it is not so great for intimacy. This means that if you are going to engage in intimate activities on the Ghostbed, you will likely need to exert more energy than you would have to on an inner spring mattress.
Sleep Position Ratings
We also wanted to examine the type of comfort and support that this mattress offers for all sleepers, including those who sleep on their back, their stomach and their side. Each of these positions necessitates different support for the back – and the entire body.
Generally, back sleepers like a mattress that is not too soft or too plush; however, they if the mattress is too firm, it can exacerbate back pain. The Ghostbed has a medium firmness, so it offers just the right comfort and support for back sleepers. It also properly aligns the spine, which provides pressure point relief and reduces pain that is often experienced in the back, the neck, and the shoulders.
Back Sleeping score: 9.25/10
Stomach sleepers often like a mattress that is soft, plush and offers some give. The Ghostbed offers just that, thanks to the softness of the upper layer, and the contouring abilities of the middle layer. We should point out that heavier sleepers may find that the Ghostbed contours too much to the body, which may not be ideal for stomach sleepers. Essentially, the comfort and the support that the Ghostbed offers is a matter of personal preference; however, we believe that the majority of stomach sleepers will enjoy this mattress.
Stomach Sleeping score: 8.75/10
Like stomach sleepers, a mattress shouldn’t be too firm to offer optimal comfort and support. Again, because the Ghostbed is a medium firm mattress, it offers great support for side sleepers. The upper layer of the mattress does feel a bit firm at first; however, after just a few seconds, you can start to feel the memory foam in the center contouring to your body, thus offering proper alignment for the spine and offering great comfort and support.
Side Sleeping score: 9/10
Bed Frame Compatibility
What really makes the Ghostbed unique is that it comes with its own foundation, which other comparable mattresses don’t provide. This foundation is constructed out of sturdy wood, and it is simple to put together with either a drill or a screwdriver.
The slats of the foundation are properly spaced to support the mattress, and a piece of cloth is stapled to ensure they stay properly spaced. The foundation also comes with a cover, which matches the cover of the mattress itself.
While we do recommend using the foundation that is provided, you can use your own foundation, if you wish. If you do opt to use your own foundation, we suggest one that has stable slats that aren’t spaced too far apart or a foundation that is completely solid, such as a platform bed.
Warranty, Guarantee and Trial Period
- Warranty: 20 years, which is much longer than the industry standard
- Guarantee: Full money back guarantee
- Trial Period: 101 Night Trial Period. If, for any reason, you are not satisfied with the Ghostbed in within that 101 night period, contact the manufacturer and they will arrange to pick up the mattress, as no charge to you, and your money will be completely refunded, no questions asked.
The Ghostbed is made by a company that has over a decade of experience in the mattress industry. They use scientific research, and their own personal experience to manufacture a mattress that provides proper spinal alignment, helps to reduce pain, and keeps sleepers cool. Their innovative design includes a foundation for the mattress, which has been created to provide the proper support to further enhance the comfort and support that the mattress provides.
Everything that the Ghostbed offers is backed by a 20-year warranty, and a 101 Night Trial Period, as well as a full money back refund. Overall, we were really impressed by the Ghostbed.
