Luxi Mattress Reviews

Last Updated: March 2018

Turn on the TV or scroll through the news feed of your social media accounts and you will find dozens of ads for mattresses. The majority of these advertisements are for bed in a box mattresses; mattresses that are shipped directly from the manufacturer to the consumer. One of the latest names to join the ranks of this industry is the Luxi mattress.

The makers of the Luxi mattress found that a lot of people have a difficult time finding a mattress that actually suits their needs. It’s either too hard or too soft, or doesn’t offer the right amount of support. In other words, most mattresses aren’t one size fits all. To answer this complaint, Luxi decided to take a different approach to creating a mattress: They made a mattress that allows you to swap the interior layers, creating a mattress that is soft, medium or firm. This means that you can really achieve a sleeping surface that is custom tailored to your specific needs.

The materials used in the Luxi mattress are of exceptional quality and include Dunlop latex, memory foam, memory foam heads and poly foam. While these materials are separated into four individual layers, you can easily swap them around and change their position, which allows you to customize the firmness of the mattress, creating a sleeping surface that will truly meet your needs.

The Luxi mattress is made in the United States and is shipped directly from the manufacturer’s facility to the consumer. This helps to reduce the cost of the mattress and allows you to skip out on the stresses of high pressure sales tactics. This is definitely great, but, it does mean that you can’t try the mattress out before you buy it. As such, it can be hard to tell if it will suit your needs. To help you determine if the Luxi is the best choice for you, we have created this review, which offers an in depth look into all of the aspects of the mattress.

  • Adjustable feel and firmness
  • Sleeps cool
  • Minimal motion transfer
  • Can’t try before you buy

The Competition

The Novos Bed is a fair comparison for the Luxi mattress. Both contain layers of poly foam, memory foam and are adjustable; however, the Luxi is comprised of four layers, while the Novos Bed only has three layers. With that said, the Novos Bed is slightly thicker, standing at 11 inches tall, while the Luxi is just 10.25 inches tall.

The Bear mattress is also fair competition for the Luxi mattress. Both are comprised of four layers, and both have a layer of poly foam and memory foam. However, the Bear mattress is not customizable, and it does is slightly thinner than the Luxi mattress; it is just 10 inches, while the Luxi mattress is 10.25 inches.

What’s It Made From…

Luxi Mattress Layers
The Luxi mattress is comprised of four separate layers, which include Dunlop latex, memory foam, memory foam heads and poly foam. All of these layers combine to create a mattress that is a total of 10.25 inches thick. This mattress is different than any other mattress we have tested before because each of the layers can be swapped in order to adjust the firmness and the comfort.

Here’s a look at the different layers that the mattress offers and how they are laid out when the mattress is delivered to you.

The Top Layer

On the top of the Luxi mattress is a layer of Dunlop latex, which is 1.5 inches thick. This layer is intended to provide the mattress with the majority of its comfort. It has a slight bounce to it, yet is plush and responds to the body. Additionally, the latex is aerated, which allows for greater breathability; body heat can easily pass through the latex, which prevents the surface of the mattress from overheating.

The Second Layer

Next, there is a layer of 1 inch of memory foam. The memory foam is highly responsive and contours to the unique shape of your body. This is the layer of the mattress that is responsible for providing pressure relief, as it reduces strain, thanks to its contouring abilities.

The Third Layer

The third layer of the Luxi mattress is made of 3.5 inches of foam heads, which is truly unique. These foam heads are intended to provide compression support and pressure point relief. They are also contour to the body at very light weights, which means that even light sleepers will find that the mattress contours to their bodies.

The Bottom Layer

The final layer of the Luxi mattress is made of 3.5 inches of poly foam. This is the foundation of the mattress and provides the bed with its shape. It helps the upper layers retain their shape and allows you to really experience their comfort and support. The poly foam also provides added deep compression support.

Surrounding all of the layers of the Luix mattress is a cover that is made of a blend of polyester, viscose and spandex. It is also quilted with .5 inches of foam, which adds a nice touch of softness to the surface of the mattress. The cover is thin and soft, yet is highly breathable. It works in conjunction with the Dunlop latex and to keep the surface of the mattress cool. It is also very durable; when we pulled on it, it bounced back to its original shape almost immediately.

As for the design of the Luxi cover, it is clean and modern. The top of the cover is white and a gray strip runs along the bottom edge of it. There is also a zipper, which is easy to open and close. This zipper is where you access the different layers of the mattress so that you can swap them and adjust the firmness.

Hands on Review

Luxi Mattress ReviewAs we have already mentioned, the Luxi mattress is shipped directly from the manufacturer to the consumer. This does help to keep the cost of the mattress down, and it also means that you don’t have to deal with the high pressure tactics that a lot of salespeople use. However, this also means that you can’t try the mattress out before you buy it. As a result, it can be difficult to determine if the Luix mattress is the right fit for your needs.

In order to help you determine if the Luxi mattress will suit your needs, we have tested it out and done an in depth assessment of the key elements that impact the overall quality and comfort of the mattress. These elements impact the type of sleep you can expect to experience on the Luxi mattress.

The elements that we assessed include:

Firmness

As we said, the Luxi mattress is customizable regarding firmness levels. You can swap the layers of the mattress to reach the desired firmness level. When it is firm, it is about an 8 on a firmness scale of 1 to 10; when it is medium, it is about a 5.5 on the same firmness scale, and when it is soft, it is about a 3.5 on the same firmness scale.

In order to change the firmness of the mattress, all you have to do is switch the position of the top three layers; place the foam heads on the top and it becomes soft and place the memory foam on the top and it becomes medium. The setup when it is delivered is a firm mattress.

Comfort

We found the Luxi mattress to be very comfortable. The memory foam offers great pressure point relief and the Dunlop latex and the poly foam offers great compression support. The foam heads also contour to the body, creating a nice level of comfort. Since you can adjust the firmness, you can really create a mattress that us custom tailored to meet your specific comfort needs.

The foam materials used in the mattress help to isolate the motion transfer, which is a major plus. This means that you won’t be bothered by any movement that is created in the mattress when someone else moves, which can impact your sleep and therefore impact your comfort. We think this mattress is a great choice for couples who share a bed.

Pain Relief and Support

The Luxi mattress offers a great deal of deep compression support and pressure point relief. The memory foam quickly contours to the unique shape of your body, which means there is less strain while you sleep, which means less pain.

Heat Retention

Mattresses that are made of foam often sleep hot. That’s because the foam tends to absorb body heat, which heats up the sleeping surface and leads to overheating of the sleeper. The Dunlop latex in the Luxi mattress is aerated, which makes it very breathable and allows any heat that is collected in the mattress to filter out. With that said, for maximum coolness, we suggest keeping the Dunlop latex at the top of the mattress to ensure optimal breathability.

Off Gassing

There are certain chemicals that are used in the construction of the foam that is used in mattresses, and those chemicals often have a smell associated with them. As a result, foam mattresses can have a smell when they are new. We didn’t notice any odor when we first received our Luxi mattress. We were able to set it up and start using it right away.

Intimacy

There is a nice amount of bounce to the Luxi mattress, thanks to the Dunlop latex. This bounce means that you will be able to easily enjoy amorous activities, as you won’t have to put in much extra effort to move around.
