About Sleep Innovations

Headquartered in West Long Branch, NJ, Sleep Innovations is an affiliate of Sun Capital Partners, Inc. This company has been heavily involved in the research and development of new products that will help people sleep better. Through studying how people sleep, they have come up with unique designs for products that not only make people more comfortable while they sleep, but are attractive and stylish as well. These products are made from memory foam, and utilize the latest advances in technology to ensure a better night’s rest.

Made in USA

All Sleep Innovations products are proudly made in the USA. The company has nine manufacturing plants throughout the United States, which are located in Redlands, CA; Dublin, GA; Dubuque, IA; Brenham, TX; West Chicago, IL; Coldwater, MS; Newburyport, MA; Baldwyn, MS; and Lebanon, MO. No foreign-made components are used in Sleep Innovations products, as this company also manufacturers their own memory foam for use in their mattresses, pillows, mattress toppers and other home products. The company is dedicated to preserving American jobs, and has no plans to outsource any of their operations.

Types of Memory Foam

This company uses three different types of memory foam in its sleep products. Each one has its own unique advantages, and also requires different manufacturing processes. The different types of memory foam offered by Sleep Innovations include:

  • Gel memory foam – which is created by infusing gel beads into premium memory foam using micro-encapsulation technology. These gel beads provide better air circulation, and have a cooling effect to reduce body temperature while sleeping.
  • Suretemp™ memory foam – which makes use of open-cell technology to create foam that conforms well to the shape of your body and provides maximum support to reduce pain. This type of memory foam also does not trap heat.
  • Luratex® –  a material that consists partly of natural latex to provide foam that easily bounces back into position after use. Products containing Luratex® provide a great deal of support, and are also ideal for those who suffer from latex allergies.

Warranty Information

Sleep Innovations offers a warranty that states the fabric cover and memory foam material used to make their products will be free from defects. A ten-year warranty is offered on all mattresses, but the length of the warranty may vary on other products. Specific warranty information is included with each shipment. You must register your product on the Sleep Innovations website, and will need to contact the company directly if there is an issue. Should you notice a defect within the warranty period, Sleep Innovations will either repair or replace the product, provided you have the original receipt and have not removed the law tags. You are responsible for the cost of shipping the product back.

What is Memory Foam?

Memory foam is a type of foam manufactured from polyurethane and other additives to create a foam with viscoelastic properties. Viscoelastic is formed from the words “viscous”, which means high resistance, and “elastic”, which means capable of returning to its normal shape. As such, memory foam is designed in such a way that it molds to the configuration of your body, yet is rugged enough to maintain its shape after repeated use. It was first created by Nasa in the mid-1960s for use in airplane seats, and its effectiveness in aircraft has since led to the development of other products containing memory foam.

Benefits of Memory Foam

There are a few unique benefits you may notice from memory foam, including:

  • Memory foam is beneficial at evenly distributing body weight, thereby reducing discomfort amongst back pain sufferers
  • Provides exceptional cushioning for delicate joints of the body
  • Comes in a variety of shapes and thicknesses
  • Can relieve pain from pressure points

Memory foam also reduces the amount of movement one feels while sleeping. For this reason, it could help reduce the number of times people awaken due to their partner tossing and turning.

Disadvantages of Memory Foam

The chemicals used to produce memory foam may result in “offgassing”, or the releasing of these chemicals. This can sometimes result in a very foul odor, which is why you should air out your memory foam for at least 24 hours first. Older memory foam also traps heat, and may therefore create a warmer sleeping environment, although new technology and gel bead inserts have addressed this issue. Memory foam mattresses are not recommended for infants and small children, as the mattresses make it difficult to turn over, and because soft bedding may trap carbon dioxide.

Choosing the right memory foam mattress

Now that you’ve read the reviews, you may be wondering how to know which memory foam product is right for you. There are a few things you should take into consideration when choosing a mattress, including:

Mattress Density

Density is expressed in pounds per cubic foot, and affects the softness and amount of support the mattress provides. Low density foam is the softest, and is rated at three pounds per cubic foot or lower. It is the softest and also the least expensive, but may not be as durable as the other two. It is ideal for occasional use. Medium density is rated at between four and five pounds per cubic foot, and provides slightly more support than low density foam. It is recommended by those looking for a primary mattress who suffer only minor aches and pains when awakening. High density is rated at six pounds per cubic foot and above, and is the most durable. High density foam is preferred for those suffering from back pain.

Pillow Density

Pillow density is rated at between one and five pounds, with one being the lowest and five being the highest. Lower density pillows are more flexible and provide less support than ones rated somewhat higher. Even though high density pillows are much harder, they do tend to soften up after several uses. Many people also find that denser pillows are also more durable. Most people will find a pillow rated at a three or four will provide the right combination of support and comfort.

Thickness

Memory foam mattresses also vary in thickness. Eight-inch thick mattresses are preferred for back sleepers, and those who are very lightweight. Mattresses that are ten inches thick are better for side or front sleepers who are of average weight. Those who are overweight or obese should consider 12 inch or thicker mattresses, regardless of their sleeping position because of the additional support they provide. Mattresses may contain a support or air flow layer underneath, and a memory foam layer on top. Generally speaking, the thicker the memory foam layer is, the more flexible and comfortable the mattress will be. Pillows are generally two or three inches thick. Choose a thicker one if you require additional cushioning for your head or neck, or a two-inch thick one for children.

Gel

The way memory foam works is by using your own body heat to form the contours that provide you with support. As such, they tend to absorb a great deal of heat, and may therefore be too warm for some people. To counteract this effect, some memory foam products contain a gel that provides cool comfort by increasing breathability. You may actually prefer the warming effect whenever it’s cold outside, in which case a pillow with a cooling gel on only one side might be ideal.

Pillow Shape

Pillows also come in variety of sizes and shapes, and the right one will largely depend upon your sleeping position. A few choices that are available include:

  • Contour pillows, which have a depression in the center to provide you with shoulder and neck support. These are ideal for side and back sleepers.
  • Versa Curve pillows, which somewhat resemble a figure 8 to allow for better support to the head and neck. Versa Curve pillows can be used by stomach, side or back sleepers.
  • Body pillows, which are much longer than traditional pillows to provide support for the legs, neck, back and hips. These pillows are generally preferred by pregnant women, but may also be used by anyone who needs extra support for the lower body.

Memory foam products are an investment in sleep quality. Experts recommend buying the best quality products you can afford, as better quality products are more durable and also tend to provide you with better comfort and support.
