The Sleeping Duck mattress hails from Australia, and thanks to its incredible success, is now being offered in the United Kingdom. Offering four layers of high-quality materials, including latex foam, memory foam, polyfoam and pocketed coils, which combine to create a mattress that is a total of 12 inches high.
The Sleeping Duck mattress was thoughtfully designed to offer exceptional comfort while providing just the right amount of support. Because the firmness that a mattress offers is really a matter of personal preference, the manufacturers added a truly unique element to the Sleeping Duck: They’ve redesigned the traditional mattress, making it modular, which enables you to select the level of firmness that is precisely right for your individual needs. With a layer that offers five zones of pocket springs, the mattress varies support from the head to the toe, ensuring that the body is always properly aligned, no matter what position you are sleeping in.
The makers of the Sleeping Duck mattress also addressed an issue that is common to foam: Heat retention. Bamboo fabric and memory foam that is infused with cooling gel, this mattress will keep you cool throughout the night.
The Sleeping Duck mattress is delivered directly from the manufacturer, which simplifies the purchase process and reduces the cost; however, this also means that you can’t try it out before you buy it. We have extensively assessed this mattress and offered our findings in this buyer’s guide so you can determine if it is the right choice for you.

Below is our final score of the Sleeping Duck mattress based on multiple criteria that we use when testing all of our mattresses.
What’s It Made From…
The Sleeping Duck mattress is comprised of four layers, which combine high-quality foam and pocketed coils, creating a total height of 12 inches, making this mattress thicker than the standard 10-inch thickness.
The Top Layer
The first layer of the Sleeping Duck mattress is made of latex foam. This latex is extremely breathable, preventing heat retention and improving the comfort that the mattress provides. This material is also highly responsive, giving the mattress a nice level of bounce, and prevents the user from feeling as if he or she is stuck.
The Second Layer
The next layer of the Sleeping Duck mattress is made of gel infused memory foam. The memory foam contours to the body, and creates exceptional pressure point relief, so users won’t feel any pain when they are sleeping; something that often happens with traditional mattress designs. The memory foam is infused with millions of beads of cooling gel, which absorb heat and keep the mattress consistently cool throughout the night, thereby improving its overall comfort.
The Third Layer
The third layer of the Sleeping Duck mattress is comprised of polyfoam. This is the layer that offers support for the mattress. It assists with pressure point relief, and it also provides a heightened level of support for the body, no matter the weight or the sleeping position. The polyfoam also acts as a transitional layer between the upper layers of foam and the final layer of pocketed coils below it.
The Bottom Layer
The fourth and final layer of the Sleeping Duck mattress is comprised of pocketed spring coils. This is the layer that creates deep compression support for the mattress, thereby further reducing the chances of experiencing any pain while you are sleeping. The coils also act as the foundation for the entire mattress, giving the upper layers support and stability.
The cover is an important element of a mattress, as it encases all of the layers, holding them together and allowing the mattress to retain its shape. The cover of the Sleeping Duck mattress is truly unique in that it is made of bamboo fabric. This fabric gives the cover a soft and smooth touch. It is also extremely breathable, further aiding in the ventilation of body heat, thereby helping the mattress retain its coolness throughout the night. Additionally, bamboo has natural anti-microbial properties, which helps to keep the mattress feeling fresh for a long period of time.
The side panels of the cover are made of polyester. This material is sturdier than the bamboo that is used on the top of the cover, which ensures that the layers of the mattress are securely wrapped and protected, allowing the mattress to retain its shape.
Another reason why the cover of the Sleeping Duck mattress is so unique is because it is completely removable. This allows you to switch the firmness level with ease (more on that later,) and also allows you to spot clean the cover so that you can keep it feeling fresh.
As far as the aesthetics of the cover, it is visually pleasing. It has a two-tone color scheme, which consists of gray and white. The top of the cover is speckled with small polka dots, while the sides of the cover are a gray, with a design that resembles herringbone.
Hands on Review
Our goal is to provide people who are considering the Sleeping Duck mattress with as much information as possible regarding the construction and the overall quality of sleep that the mattress will provide. To do that, we have assessed the most pertinent criteria of the mattress in this portion of our buyer’s guide. This includes:
There are two firmness levels available for the Sleeping Duck mattress: Medium and firm. On a firmness scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest, we rate the medium firmness mattress a 6, and the firm model at 8. There is also a split version available; one side of the mattress is medium firmness and one-half is firm.
If, after purchasing the mattress, you find that you want to adjust the firmness level, you can easily do so. Simply contact the manufacturer and they will send you the supplies that are needed to adjust the firmness, unzip the cover and make the necessary changes.
We found that the Sleeping Duck mattress was exceptionally comfortable. It offers what we consider a balanced level of sinkage and contouring. The sinkage was not markedly deep, but it is definitely enough to offer pressure point relief. The contouring of the mattress is just right; it definitely hugs the body, but it doesn’t hug so much that it makes you feel like you are being trapped in the mattress.
Motion transfer can impact the overall comfort that a mattress offers, and the Sleeping Duck mattress has perfected motion isolation. Because the pocketed coils are located on the bottom layer of the mattress, any motion that they pick up is absorbed by the foam layers. This is ideal for couples sharing the mattress, as you will not feel any motion that occurs when your partner moves.
Pain Relief and Support
The Sleeping Duck mattress is a hybrid mattress, which means that it offers a great level of support. The upper layers of latex and foam provide exceptional pressure point relief. The pocketed coils at the base of the mattress provide proper support for the body; it offers more support in points where it is needed, and less support in areas where you don’t. The mattress can actually adapt to the points where pressure is most created. As a result, you can truly sleep in any position and experience exceptional comfort and support.
We were also thoroughly impressed by the cooling capabilities of the Sleeping Duck mattress. The top layer of latex is aerated, which allows for exceptional breathability. This means that anybody heat won’t be trapped into the mattress, but rather, it is transferred out of it. Additionally, the bamboo cover further enhances the breathability of the mattress. The gel infused memory foam also does an exceptional job of keeping the mattress cool.
Off-gassing refers to the smell that a new mattress emits. This is a problem that is often associated with mattresses that are made of foam materials, as the chemicals that are used during the production of the foam tend to have an odor.
With the Sleeping Duck mattress, off gassing is not an issue at all. We didn’t notice any odor coming from the mattress, and in fact, we were able to start using it as soon as it took its shape after unpacking it.
Hybrid mattresses are known for providing a nice level of bounce, and the Sleeping Duck mattress is no exception. The latex on the top layer is exceptionally responsive, even when a lot of pressure is applied to it. The pocketed coils at the base also add to the bounce that the mattress provides. As a result, activities that are intimate in nature can easily be enjoyed on the Sleeping Duck.
We would like to point out that while the Sleeping Duck mattress does offer great bounce, it doesn’t impact the overall comfort, as the mattress does a great job of preventing the transfer of motion.
Sleeping Position Ratings
Different support is needed for different sleep positions. With that said, we wanted to see what type of support the Sleeping Duck mattress offered in the following sleep positions:
- The back
- The stomach
- The side
Here’s a look at what we discovered…
The Sleeping Duck mattress offers exceptional support and comfort for back sleepers. Because there are two firmness options, you have the ability to choose the type of firmness that will best suit your needs while sleeping on your back. With either model, you will notice that the mattress contours to your body and hugs it, offering just the right level of support and comfort. Additionally, the spring coils have the ability to provide support where you need it the most.
Back Sleeping score: 9.25/10
Stomach sleepers will also find that the Sleeping Duck mattress is comfortable and supportive. We recommend the medium firmness mode, as it will really cradle your body just right while you are sleeping on your stomach. However, if you prefer a firmer sleeping surface, the firmer model will offer you the right amount of comfort. In either case, the mattress will hug your body, but it won’t make you feel as if you are being swallowed by it, which is a problem that many stomach sleepers experience with other mattresses.
Stomach Sleeping score: 8.75/10
Sleeping on the side can often lead to pressure point problems. That is because more of your body weight is placed on specific points of the body, which can lead to pain. The Sleeping Duck mattress provides the right level of support where your body needs it the most and offers deep compression support, which makes this an ideal mattress for side sleepers.
Side Sleeping score: 9/10
Bed Frame Compatibility
The Sleeping Duck mattress is best used on a bed frame that is either solid or has slats that are no more than 3 inches apart and are made of a sturdy material. These types of bed frames will ensure that the mattress is properly supported so that you can truly experience all of the benefits that the design of the mattress intends to offer.
To ensure that users have the best experience possible, Sleeping Duck has designed their very own mattress base, which you can purchase when you buy your mattress. The base offers reinforced wood panels, which are upholstered with fabric. The support slats are made of sturdy birch wood, and the legs are stainless steel. If you want to make sure that you will reap the benefits that the Sleeping Duck mattress is designed to provide, we highly recommend purchasing the bed frame that the company manufactures.
