Zenhaven is an all natural mattress that is made entirely of Talalay latex. There are four separate layers, all of which are made of this natural latex material. Together, the four layers make a mattress that is a total of 10 inches thick.
Here’s a more detailed look at the construction of the Zenhaven mattress.
The Top Layer
On the top of the Zenhaven mattress is a 1.5 inch layer of Talalay latex. This is the layer that provides the mattress with its comfort. It has a 5 zone comfort layer, which not only offers comfort, but also offers support. The latex conforms to the body and is highly responsive, which allows it to offer pressure point relief. The Talalay latex also has natural cooling properties. It pulls heat away from the body, preventing it from building up on the surface of the mattress and keeping it cool.
The Second Layer
Next, there is a 3 inch layer of Talalay latex. This layer of latex has an indentation load deflection (ILD) of 25 to 29. Indentation load deflection measures how hard or soft the latex foam is. Because the Talalay latex in the second layer of the Zenhaven mattress is thicker than the top layer, it provides a great deal of pressure point relief, as well as support.
The Third Layer
The third layer of the Zenhaven mattress is made of 3 inches of Talalay latex. This layer has an ILD of 30 to 34. When the mattress is lying so that the softer side is positioned on the top, this layer of Talalay latex serves as a transitional support layer; but, when it is flipped, it becomes the second layer and it creates a firmer mattress, as it gives more push back on the top layer.
The Fourth Layer
On the bottom of the Zenhaven mattress is a 1.5 inch layer of Talalay latex. This layer provides additional support for the top three layers of the mattresses, and it gives the mattress its shape. However, when the mattress is flipped over, this layer becomes the top of the mattress, creating a firmer sleeping surface.
Do keep in mind that the Zenhaven mattress can be flipped, as we have discussed, which means that the bottom and the top layers of the mattress are mainly intended to serve as comfort layers; however, the mattress is firmer when it is flipped on one side and softer on the other, which creates a mattress that has two totally different feelings.
Encompassing the four layers of the Zenhaven mattress is a cover that is constructed of organic cotton. Underneath the organic cotton, a layer of Joma wool is sewn into each side of the cover. This wool has natural moisture wicking abilities and natural temperature regulating abilities. It helps to draw heat away from the body and maintains a cooler sleeping. The organic cotton is also highly breathable, so when combined with the Joma wool, this cover has an excellent ability to create a sleeping surface that maintains a comfortable temperature throughout the night. What is really neat about the Zenhaven mattress is that it offers two different firmness levels in one mattress. This is because you have the ability to flip it.
