The Sleep Master mattress is manufactured by Zinus, Inc, a pioneer in the mattress industry with over 25 years of experience. Zinus is committed to providing their customers with mattresses that offer comfort and support at prices that are truly affordable. The Sleep Master mattress is a true testament to the company’s commitment to better sleep.
An all foam mattress, the Zinus Sleep Master is comprised of high quality memory foam, pressuring relieving comfort foam and high density base support form. All materials used in this mattress are CertiPUR-US Certified, which means that no harsh chemicals are used during its production, which ensures that it is not only healthy for you, but safe for the environment, too. Zinus uses Bio Foam natural plant oil instead of petroleum, which helps to keep the mattress fresher for longer.
Like the rest of the Zinus mattresses, the Sleep Master is shipped directly from the manufacturer to the consumer. The advantage of this is that it eliminates the need to deal with high pressure sales tactics when shopping in a store, and it also brings the total cost of the mattress down. However, on the downside, this means that you can’t try the mattress out before you buy it. As a result, it can be difficult to determine whether or not it will actually provide you with the support and comfort that you are looking for.
To help you determine if the Zinus Sleep Master is the right choice or you, we have created this in-depth buyer’s guide, which fully examines all of the details of this mattress and sheds light on the type of experience you can expect to have with it.

Below is our final score of the Zinus Sleep Master Ultima Memory Foam Mattress based on multiple criteria that we use when testing all of our mattresses.
What’s It Made From…
The Zinus Sleep Master mattress is comprised of three separate layers of foam: 2 inches of memory foam, 2 inches of pressure relieving comfort foam and 4 inches of high density base support foam. Together, these three layers create a mattress that is a total of 8 inches thick.
Here’s a breakdown of each of the layers of this mattress…
The Top Layer
The first layer of the Sleep Master mattress from Zinus is made of 2 inches of memory foam. This is the layer of the mattress that conforms to the body and creates a welcomed level of softness.
The Second Layer
The next layer of this mattress is made of 2 inches of pressure relieving comfort foam. Once the first layer of the mattress contours to your body, the pressure reliving comfort foam starts working, responding to the weight of your body and providing pressure relief, thereby reducing the buildup of pressure points and helping to reduce pain.
The Third Layer
The third and final layer of the Sleep Master mattress is made of 4 inches of high density base support foam. This is the layer that supports the upper two layers of foam, and helps the mattress retain its shape. The base layer also helps to enhance the overall comfort and durability of the mattress.
The cover of the Zinus Sleep Master is covered with a high quality foam and fiber quilted euro box top cover. This cover provides an extra layer of softness for the mattress, and also adds another level of support. Additionally, the cover adds breathability to the mattress, reducing the level of heat retention.
The cover hugs the entire mattress and is white in color. Aesthetically speaking, there really isn’t much to say about its appearance: It is white with a bit of detailing, but overall, it is basic as far as looks go.
Hands on Review
One of the downsides of purchasing a factory director mattress is that you can’t try it out before you buy it. This means that you can’t really determine what type of comfort and support it will offer, or what the quality of the mattress is, overall. For that reason, we have added this hand’s on review in our buyer’s guide. This portion of our guide highlights the important criteria that impact the overall quality of the mattress, and gives you insight into the type of sleep that you can expect to experience with it.
The criteria that we assess in this section of our guide includes:
Here is a look at our findings regarding each of the aforementioned criteria:
On a firmness scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest, we rate the Zinus Sleep Master mattress a 5. It is right in the middle of the road, which means that it isn’t meant to be too soft, yet it isn’t meant to be too firm. Being that it is an average firmness, the average sleeper should enjoy the Sleep Master mattress from Zinus.
The Zinus Sleep Master does an okay job as far as comfort goes. It is certainly more comfortable than a standard inner spring mattress; however, we didn’t really notice much of a difference in terms of comfort when compared to other memory foam mattresses. It does conform to the body, creating a nice hug, and it also absorbs a lot of energy and reduces motion transfer; two elements that certainly add to the overall comfort. However, we didn’t notice any monumental difference compared to other similar mattresses in regard to comfort.
Pain Relief and Support
Overall, the pain relief and support that the Sleep Master mattress from Zinus provided was also mediocre. We think that it was moderately supportive. We did notice that this mattress did help to provide pressure point relief; however, we have definitely tried other mattresses that did a better job of providing pressure relief.
In terms of support, the memory foam does cradle the body nicely; however, some users may find that there is too much sinkage, which could make them feel as if they are trapped in the mattress. However, other users may really enjoy the level of sinkage, as it does provide a nice hug and adds to softness of the mattress.
Mattress that are made of foam are notorious for retaining a lot of heat. That is because body heat tends to get trapped inside the foam, which then heats up the mattress, and makes for a warm sleeping surface – and a warm sleeper.
In regard to the heat retention in the Zinus Sleep Master mattress, we thought that it did an okay job. We have certainly slept on mattresses that sleep hotter; however, we have also slept on mattresses that sleep cooler. There were points when we noticed that the mattress heated up, particularly while sleeping on the side.
Off gassing is another problem that is often experienced with foam mattress. There are certain chemicals that are used in the production of the foam, and those chemicals can emit an odor. With the Sleep Master mattress from Zinus, we are delighted to report that we did not experience any off gassing.
All of the materials used in the mattress are CertiPUR-US certified, which means that there aren’t any harmful chemicals used in the production of the foam. We think that this is the reason why we did not experience any off gassing.
When it comes to intimate activities, you may find that you will have to exert a bit more energy than you would have to on the Sleep Master mattress from Zinus than you would have to on a traditional inner spring mattress. That is because the foam layers absorb so much of the energy, which is great for motion transfer, but it doesn’t do much for providing the bounce that you helps to improve movement during intimacy.
Sleeping Position Ratings
Every sleep position requires a different level of support. For that reason, we wanted to assess the type of support that the Zinus Sleep Master mattress offers in the three most common sleep positions, including:
- The back
- The front
- The side
Here’s a look at what we found regarding the comfort and support offered in each of these positions.
Overall, body weight was distributed pretty evenly throughout the Sleep Master mattress from Zinus. This helped to reduce buildup in pressure points, and reduced pain. While most back sleepers will enjoy sleeping on this mattress, some may find that it sinks too much, which could make them feel like they are being trapped in the mattress.
Back Sleeping score: 9.25/10
Again, because weight was evenly distributed across this mattress, we think that the average stomach sleeper will also enjoy sleeping on this mattress. When weight is distributed throughout the mattress, pressure is less likely to build up in the body, which reduces pain. But, as with back sleepers, stomach sleepers may find that the memory foam layer on the top of the mattress sinks too much, and may therefore feel as if they are seeping too far into the mattress.
Stomach Sleeping score: 9/10
Of all sleeping positions, we think that side sleepers will have the least positive experience on this mattress. We found that the sinkage level was just too much on the side, which lead to definite pressure buildup. Because body weight is focused on specific points while sleeping on the side, a high level of sinkage isn’t ideal for a side sleeper.
Side Sleeping score: 9.25/10
Bed Frame Compatibility
The Zinus Sleep Master is designed to be compatible with any bed frame, and we have to say that this really is true. We tried it out on various bed frames, including slatted frames, box springs and solid surfaces. We felt like the mattress was well supported on all frames, which really makes it a versatile mattress.
With that said, however, as we do with all mattresses, we suggest using the Sleep Master from Zinus on a solid bed frame, or on one that has slats that aren’t spaced too far apart (3 inches or less) and that are constructed of a solid material, such as durable wood or metal. These types of bed frames will ensure that your mattress will be properly supported so that you can thoroughly enjoy its construction.
Warranty, Guarantee and Trial Period
- Warranty: 10 year limited warranty. If there are any defects experienced as a result of the manufacturing process within 10 years from the date of purchase, you can contact the company and they will either repair or replace your mattress.
- Guarantee: There isn’t a definite guarantee offered with this mattress, and there may be some fees charged to the customer, should you wish to return the mattress.
- Trial Period: There isn’t a trial period for this mattress; however, there is a 30 day window for returns. With that said, as we pointed out, you may have to pay some fees if you do end up wanting to return the mattress.
The Zinus Sleep Master mattress is a medium firmness mattress that is designed to offer pressure relief and support for the average sleeper. Overall, we did think that it offers a decent amount of comfort and support, but it wasn’t much different than other memory foam products. We are pleased with the CertiPUR-US certification, and that there was no off gassing or motion transfer; however we have slept on cooler mattresses. We were also not thrilled that this mattress did not come with a specific trial period, or a specific guarantee.
Is This Mattress Right For You?
If you are on the market for an average firmness memory foam mattress that is far more affordable than other memory foam mattresses that are on the market, we think that you will be pleased with the Sleep Master mattress from Zinus. However, if you are looking for exceptional pain relief and support, and you want a mattress that will remain a consistent temperature throughout the night, you may do better choosing another option.
