Casper

casper mattress review

The Casper mattress was introduced in 2014, and in the few years that it has been around, it has become one of the most popular mattresses on the market. As a matter of fact, this mattress is so popular that you can find a commercial for it pretty much every time you watch TV, or anytime you scroll through your social media account. Like many of the mattresses that are offered today, the Casper is factory direct mattress; it is shipped directly from the manufacturer to the consumer. This not only allows you to avoid the hassles of shopping in a store, as you don’t have to endure the high pressure tactics that are commonly used to sell a mattress; and, it also reduces the cost of the mattress.

The Casper mattress has been designed to offer support and comfort for all sleepers. In other words, it is a ‘one-size-fits-all’ mattress. Utilizing the latest research, as well as the information that is compiled via focus groups, the makers of the Casper mattress have created a mattress that provides a solution for the majority of sleepers’ desires.

Purple

purple mattress review

The Purple mattress is fairly new to the market; however, it has quickly become one of the most popular mattress brands on the market. Like the Casper mattress, Purple is a factory direct mattress; it is shipped directly from the manufacturer to the consumer. What really sets the Purple mattress apart from other mattresses that are currently on the market is its innovative design. This mattress contains a hyperelastic polymer, which is laid out in a grid pattern. The unique layout of the material, and the actual properties of the hyperelastic polymer allow it to collapse when a certain amount of pressure is applied to it. As a result, it does an excellent job at providing support and pressure relief. Thanks to the grid design, it is also extremely breathable, which means that the mattress remains cool throughout the night.

The unique design of the Purple mattress offers a variety of benefits. Perhaps the biggest benefit is that it helps to keep the spine in proper alignment, which means that there is less pressure placed on the spine, the back and the neck, as well as other points in the body that are known to develop pain while sleeping.

Construction of Each Mattress

One of the most important factors to consider when buying a mattress is its construction. The materials that are used in the mattress and how those materials are laid out directly impacts the support and the comfort that it provides. To help you determine if the Casper or the Purple mattress is the right choice for you, we provide a detailed look at the construction of each one.

Construction of Casper Mattress

casper mattress comparison

The Casper mattress is comprised of four separate layers, and each layer is made of a different type of material. Together, these layers combine to create a mattress that is a total of 9.5 inches thick.

Top Layer

On the top of the Casper mattress is a 1.5-inch layer of Dunlop latex foam. This is the layer of the mattress that provides cooling, comfort, and support. Dunlop latex does not retain any heat and is extremely breathable, which allows the mattress to stay cool and comfortable throughout the night. This material also offers a bit of bounce, which makes it easy to move around in the bed.

Second Layer

In the middle of the Casper mattress is 1.5 inches of memory foam. The memory foam conforms to the unique contours of your body, creating a hugging feeling and providing the proper support where you need it. Additionally, this layer delivers pressure relief and prevents motion transfer, which is important because it absorbs the motion that is created from the top layer of Dunlop latex.

Third Layer

Underneath the memory foam is a layer of 1.5 inches of poly foam. This is the transitional layer of the mattress, transitioning the body from the upper two layers of the mattress into the base layer.

Base Layer

The final layer of the Casper mattress is made of 5 inches of poly foam and serves as the foundation of the mattress, supporting the four layers above it and maximizing the comfort that each layer provides.

Cover

The top of the cover is made of 100 percent polyester, the side panels are made of a blend of polyester and polypropylene, and the bottom portion of the cover is made of rayon, polyester, and aramid. The cover is breathable, durable and soft.

Middle Layer

Bottom Layer

On the bottom of the mattress is a 4-inch layer of polyurethane foam and supports the top two layers. It also offers additional support and comfort.

Made of a blend of viscose, polyester, and polyester-Lycra, the cover is very breathable, soft and durable.

Which Mattress Should I Purchase?

Both mattresses are very supportive, are comfortable and sleep very cool, so it really depends on whether or not you want some bounce in your mattress. Thanks to the Dunlop latex in the Casper mattress, it does offer some bounce, which is great for amorous activities and for getting in and out of the bed. The Purple mattress does not offer any bounce, which means that you will have to exert a little extra effort when trying to move around on the mattress, for amorous activities and just for getting in and out of the bed.
