GhostBed Review

The GhostBed memory foam mattress is the brainchild of bed-in-a-box industry veteran Nature’s Sleep, who have been manufacturing luxury mattresses in the United States for close to two decades and who are committed to creating “high quality, low cost” sleep solutions. With their latest offering – the GhostBed mattress – Nature’s Sleep uses both research and the feedback from tens of thousands of past and present customers to develop what they consider to be an exceptional memory foam mattress that incorporates aerated high-quality synthetic latex foam for a super soft-to-the-touch feel and a much springier bed surface.

Now because variety continues to be the spice of life, the brand tweaked what they felt was already the “perfect” GhostBed model to accommodate those who need a seriously cooler sleep surface in order to gain those requisite zzz’s. Enter the GhostBed Luxe. This variation on the original enjoys all the iconic features you expect from memory foam such as curve-hugging support, motion isolation and sufficient push-back to allow for easier mobility however it also incorporates a patent-pending cooling technology that includes the brand’s Ghost Ice Layer and Ghost Ice Fabric all contained in a plusher top surface for those who also enjoy a little extra cushioning.

The 11-inch high GhostBed and 13-inch high GhostBed Luxe are both available for on-line purchase only which means that by eliminating the costly middle man and the pricey bricks-and-mortar format, the brand is able to pass some sizable savings along to their customers.

Similar to most of the bed-in-a-box brands, GhostBed offers free shipping and handling (sorry,  only available in the United States) as well as a 101-night trial period during which you can test run your new mattress and if after a full 30 days (hey, you have to give it a chance) you decide it’s not the best bed you’ve ever slept on, give them a call and they’ll come pick it up and provide a full refund. With the basic model, you receive a 20-year warranty and with the pricier Luxe model, the term jumps to 25-years.

When it comes to construction, both the GhostBed and GhostBed Luxe memory foam mattresses are low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) and are manufactured without the use of harsh chemicals, heavy metals or formaldehyde for a more eco-friendly product that produces minimal off-gassing during the set-up phase.

Construction

Cover

The basic GhostBed features a soft, stretchy cover made from a polyester / viscose blend. Because of its ability to stretch and flex each time you move, it works with the foams to adapt and gently hug your curves for non-stop support. It’s also zippered for easy removal and machine washing so your sleep surface can remain continually clean, fresh and hygienic. Now the Luxe model goes one step further. The surface of the Luxe introduces three cooling technologies including a .5-inch layer of cooling fiber that is woven directly into the cover followed by a 1-inch layer of their proprietary gel-infused memory foam and finally, a wrap of their proprietary, cool-to-the-touch Ghost Ice fabric.

The Top Layer

The top layer of the GhostBed memory foam mattress features 1.5-inches of aerated premium-grade synthetic latex foam to deliver a soft-to-the-touch feel that provides just a little more bounce to your mattress surface than a standard memory foam. This is ideal for those who still want the push-back of a coil-spring construction mattress but with the comfort and support that only memory foam can deliver. By constructing this layer with thousands of tiny holes across the entire surface, it continually draws heat away from your body for a more comfortable, restful night.

The Second Layer

Delivering further cooling comfort to the GhostBed is a 2-inch layer of the brand’s proprietary Gel Memory Foam. By using cells that are larger than most other brands, this foam is able to dispel body heat across the entire mattress surface for a continuously cooler sleep regardless of your body type or sleep style. Now for those who can’t rest easy unless the windows are open and the covers are off, the GhostBed Luxe offers even more cooling technology. This model includes an extra layer of refreshing relief between the cover and that first 2-inch layer of Gel Memory Foam. It’s called their Ghost Ice Phase Changing Material and its role is to help regulate body temperature as you sleep by absorbing and dissipating large amounts of heat across your sleep surface so you’ll never find yourself waking in the night drenched in sweat, constantly flipping your pillow over or searching for a cooler spot on the mattress.

The Third Layer

Exclusive to the GhostBed Luxe is a third layer of cooling, comfort in the form of their 2-inch thick Ghost Bounce Layer. As the name implies, this cushy added layer is comprised of highly responsive latex foam which is guaranteed to not only provide a little extra spring to your mattress but is also highly breathable to work with the upper and lower layers to promote continual air flow for a cooler mattress. This important layer also acts as a buffer or transition between the upper comfort layers and the firmer base to ensure that cozy, cushy mattress you love also delivers ideal overall support and optimal spinal alignment.

The Base Layer

Both the original GhostBed and the GhostBed Luxe feature a durable 7.5-inch high density support layer that delivers firm, uniform support to the upper comfort levels for optimal spinal alignment. This important layer also helps to absorb shock, movement and essentially the daily wear and tear that happens with all mattresses. And by doing so, it helps your mattress retain its shape, prevent it from breaking down over time and ultimately having a much longer lifespan.

Added Benefits

Minimal Off-Gassing

Both the basic GhostBed and the GhostBed Luxe memory foam mattress are made with the environment in mind. Manufactured without the use of harsh chemicals, they are CertiPUR-US certified which means that they contain no ozone depleters, heavy metals, formaldehyde or phthalates. These components are known to cause new memory foam mattresses to produce what is called off-gassing or a chemical smell that can last several days after initial set-up. Because GhostBeds are low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) they produce minimal to zero off-gassing which makes them an ideal option for allergy sufferers as well as those who are searching for a more environmentally sound sleep option.

Continual Comfort Support

GhostBed uses a superior grade latex foam for a softer, cooler sleep surface as well as gel foams that deliver enhanced breathability and better air movement throughout the entire mattress. With the Luxe model, you also enjoy the cool-to-the-touch feel of their proprietary Ghost Ice Phase Changing Materials that are designed to absorb large amounts of heat quickly and ensure the core of your mattress remains cool and comfortable. With both models, the foams used not only deliver a more comfortable, cooler sleep but offer superior support and pressure point relief. What this means for you is that your body weight is effectively dispersed across the entire sleep surface and heavier joints such as shoulders, hips and knees that can often bear the brunt of your weight as you sleep, receive continually gentle support.

A Little More Bounce

A feature that is particularly important for those who are heavier or who suffer from back, muscle or joint pain is the ease with which you can move around on your memory foam mattress. By using a superior grade synthetic latex foam in their mattress, GhostBed delivers a little extra springiness that helps lessen the mobility issues that standard memory foam mattresses can be renowned for. What this means for you is that you can get in and out of bed with ease and turn over in the night without that sinking sense and need to struggle against your mattress surface. And because latex is known for it’s soft-to-the-touch, supportive properties and ability to dissipate heat, you’ll also enjoy a cooler, more comfortable
