However, shopping for a mattress can also be overwhelming. There are so many different options to choose from, which can make it difficult to determine which option will best suit your needs. Add to that the stress of having to deal with the high-pressure tactics that so many salespeople use to get you to buy, and it’s no wonder why you may feel like shopping for a new mattress is a tedious endeavor.
Thanks to the new factory direct mattress market, which is booming, you can alleviate one of the issues that are associated with shopping for a new bed; the stress of the high-pressure sales tactics. But, the downside of buying one of these mattresses is that you can’t try them out before you buy them. That’s where we come in! We have tested out countless factory direct mattresses, and in this review, we compare two of the most popular options on the market: The Casper mattress and the Tuft and Needle mattress. Which one is right for you? Read on to find out…
The Casper mattress was introduced in 2014. Since then, it has become one of the most popular mattresses on the market. The makers of Casper wanted to create a mattress that offered a universal feel; in other words, they wanted to create a bed that would provide the same comfort and support for all sleepers, ensuring a truly restful night of sleep. Backed by extensive research, as well as the results of countless focus groups, the makers of the Casper have created a mattress that they feel truly offers exceptional comfort, fantastic support and a truly restful night of sleep for everyone. Comprised of four layers of the highest quality foam materials, the Casper aims to deliver an exceptional night of sleep.
The Tuft and Needle mattress have also been designed to meet the needs of all sleepers. The makers of this mattress have also conducted extensive research to deliver a mattress that offers the ideal support and pressure point relief to reduce pain and provide a comfortable sleeping surface. Though it’s designed is more simplistic than the Casper mattress – it only has two layers as opposed to four – this mattress definitely delivers when it comes to comfort and support. The Tuft and Needles mattress is an excellent choice for shoppers who are looking for a high-quality mattress at an affordable price.
The materials used and where they are placed in the mattress directly impacts the comfort and support that it provides. To give you a better understanding of the Casper and the Tuft and Needles mattresses, we have provided a breakdown of the construction of each of these mattresses.
The Casper mattress is made of four separate layers of different types of foam that combine to create a total thickness of 9.5 inches. The construction of this mattress is as follows:
The Tuft and Needles mattress is comprised of just two layers, which combine to create a mattress that is a total of 10 inches thick. The construction of each layer is as follows:
Firmness and support are two of the most important factors of a mattress, as both directly indicate how comfortable the mattress is and how comfortable it will be.
On a firmness scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest level of firmness, we give the Casper mattress a score of 6.5. There is only one model offered, and it is designed to offer ‘universal comfort.’ In other words, it is a one-size fits most mattress. While most sleepers will find the firmness just right, some may find that it is too soft, while others may find that it is too hard. The mattress does a great job of offering deep compression support and pressure point relief; in other words, it is highly supportive.
On a firmness scale of 1 to 10, we would rate the Tuft and Needle mattress a 6. It is also firm enough to provide pressure point relief and great support, without being so firm that it makes you feel like you are sleeping on a board. We also found that the Tuft and Needles mattress good support. The top layer instantly conforms to the body; however, the second layer adds the foundational support that is needed to reduce pressure point pain and properly support the entire body.
Different sleep positions require different levels of support and comfort. For that reason, we assessed the support and comfort that each of these mattresses delivers in the three most common sleep positions: The back, the stomach, and the side.
The Back
The Casper mattress is best suited for back sleepers, as the foam layers evenly distribute weight throughout the mattress and reduce pressure on the spine, neck, and shoulders. We found that it offers a suitable level of comfort for back sleepers of all weights and sizes.
The Side
Most side sleepers will find this mattress supportive and comfortable. It keeps the spine in proper alignment, which is important for side sleepers. It also helps to reduce the pressure build up that causes pain, which is an issue that a lot of side sleepers experience.
The Stomach
Smaller and average sized stomach sleepers will find the Casper mattress comfortable and supportive. However, those who are heavier in weight may find that the Casper mattress does not offer the support and comfort that they seek, as the foam may sink too much while sleeping on the stomach.
So, which mattress is the best option for you; the Casper or the Tuft and Needles? To be honest, it really is a matter of personal preference. If you are looking for a mattress that is simplistic in design, yet offers good support and comfort – and is also very budget-friendly – then the Tuft and Needles mattress will be a good pick for you. However, if you are on the market for a mattress that offers more bells and whistles and provides more of a customized feel, than the Casper mattress will be a good choice for you.
