Sapira Mattress Review

sapira mattress review

Last Updated: March 2018

From the makers of one of the most well-known online bed in a box mattress manufacturers, Leesa, comes a brand new mattress that is designed to provide a seriously luxurious sleep experience: Sapira.

Sapira is the sister mattress of Leesa, a highly regarded manufacturer of exceptional mattresses. Though the Leesa mattress is an exceptionally made mattress that has received exceptional reviews, the people behind Leesa wanted to reinvent their design and create something that would really take the sleeping experience up a few notches. The result: The Sapira.

The process of making the Sapira mattress actually includes scrap metal; thousands of tons of scrap steel, to be exact. The scrap steel is collected and taken to the Sapira factory in Illinois, where it is melted down and turned into coils for the mattresses. In fact, it is the coils that set the Sapira mattress apart from the huge mattress crowd. The makers conducted extensive research to create the ideal gauge wire to for the Sapira mattress that would create the right amount of support and bounce back for users. To add to the perfectly engineered coils, the manufacturers added high-quality foams to create a mattress that offers exceptional comfort and support, thereby reducing pain and further improving support.

So, how does the Sapira mattress stack up to the rest of the ship to order mattresses on the market? In this buyer’s guide, we will examine just that.

What’s It Made From…

sapira-mattress-layers
The Sapira mattress is made five layers of the highest quality materials, which includes high-density foam, memory foam, poly foam, base foam and pocketed coils. When combined together, each of the four layers creates a mattress that is a total of 10 inches in thickness. Below, you will find a more detailed description of each of the four layers of the Sapira mattress.

The Top Layer

At the very top of the Sapira mattress is 1.5 inches of high-density foam poly foam. The goal of this layer is to absorb body heat, which helps to keep the mattress cool and comfortable throughout sleeping. On top of that, the top layer of high-density poly foam makes the mattress instantaneously comfortable, as it avoids the feeling of being completely surrounded by the mattress. The top layer helps to keep the mattress cool, which aides in the comfort that it provides. This layer of the Sapira mattress is 3.75 pounds per cubic feet.

The Second Layer

This is the layer of the Sapira mattress is made of 1.5 inches of memory foam. With the memory foam located underneath the top layer of performance foam, the second layer is able to contour to your body without an excessive amount of hugging. Additionally, the second layer of the mattress helps to minimize heat retention issues, a problem that often occurs with foam mattresses. Lastly, this layer of the mattress aids in pressure point relief. The memory foam is 4.0 pounds per cubic foot.

The Third Layer

The third layer of the Sapira mattress serves as the transition layer. This layer is made of 1 inch of transitional poly foam. The role of this foam is to provide a smooth transition from the upper memory foam layer and the pocket coils that are located in the coil layer below it. The transitional poly foam is 2.0 pounds per cubic foot.

The Fourth Layer

At the fourth layer of the Sapira mattress is six inches of pocketed coils. The pocketed coils used in the Sapira mattress are the highest performance coils that have ever been created. The coils provide zoned support, which creates the proper amount of support. In other words, the coils give you more support where you need it and less support where you don’t need it. This layer also features edge support coils, which allow the edges of the mattress to have the same exact feeling as the rest of the mattress, which is something you don’t often find in a mattress; typically, the edges feel a lot different than the rest of the mattress

The Bottom Layer

The foundation layer o the mattress is made of 1 inch of poly base foam. It provides foundational support for the layers above, maximizing the comfort and support that the other materials provide.

The Cover

Though the cover isn’t technically considered a layer, it does have an important job and is definitely worth mentioning. The cover holds all of the layers of the mattress together. Made of a blend of polyester and Lyrca, the cover of the Sapira mattress is soft to the touch, stretchy and very breathable. When we pulled on the cover, it instantly bounced back to its original position, which means that it will always provide the support that the mattress requires. Not only is the cover of the mattress functional, but it also gives it an attractive look. The cover has a four bar design, which is the same designed that is used on Leesa mattress; however, the style has been enhanced a bit. Instead of four white bars, which are used on the cover of the Leesa mattress, the cover is off white and has four gray bars with a geometric pattern. The cover offers a classic look.

Hands on Review

sapira mattress review While ordering the mattress online and having it delivered directly from the manufacturer simplifies the process of purchasing the Sapira mattress, there is one drawback; you can’t try it out before you buy it. As a result, it can be difficult to determine whether or not you will find it comfortable and supportive.

To help you determine if the Sapira mattress will be a good choice for you, we have reviewed some of the most important criteria that impact the overall quality of the mattress. Those criteria include:

In this section of our buyer’s guide, we share what we found about the above-mentioned criteria.

Firmness

On a firmness scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest, we give the Sapira mattress a score of 7. While it is firmer than many other hybrid mattresses, it still does meet the needs of the majority of sleepers; however, if you are looking for a softer mattress, the Sapira may not be a good pick for you.

We found that the Sapira mattress was pretty firm when we first laid on it; but, after a few hours, we did notice that it became a bit softer.

Comfort

The Sapira mattress was a bit hard at first; however, we didn’t find that the firmness impacted the comfort that it offers. We tested it on our back, our stomach and our side, and we did find that it was pretty comfortable in each position. We could feel the memory foam in the center of the mattress contouring almost immediately, which really made for a comfortable feel. The coils also do a lot for the comfort of the mattress.

A factor that impacts the comfort that a mattress delivers is motion transfer. This is particularly a problem that is experienced when a mattress is shared by two people. When one person moves, the other person can feel that movement, as the motion of the movement is transferred through the mattress. With the Sapira mattress, there was very little motion transfer. This certainly improves the overall comfort of the mattress.

Pain Relief and Support

We found that the Sapira mattress was extremely supportive in all sleeping positions. The memory foam core immediately contours to the body, but there was a decent enough amount of push back to prevent the body from feeling trapped in the mattress. That is because of the foam layers and the coils, which work in unison to create an excellent level of support.

The makers of the Sapira mattress have gone to great lengths to create a mattress that offers excellent support and stability, which extends right out to the edges. Despite this, there is just the right amount of sinkage, which helps to avoid the buildup of pressure, which can lead to pain. With that said, we didn’t experience any pain when we slept on the Sapira mattress. Overall, it offers fantastic support and we woke up feeling great.

Heat Retention

Heat retention is often a problem that is experienced with mattresses that are made of foam. Body heat can get trapped in the foam, which then makes the mattress warm and decreases the comfort. With the Sapira mattress, there is virtually no heat retention. The placement of high-density poly foam on the top layer of the mattress is very breathable and helps to dissipate body heat, thereby keeping the mattress cool. We stayed cool and comfortable while sleeping on the Sapira mattress.

Off Gassing

Off-gassing refers to the odor that mattress emits. This is a problem that mattresses which are constructed of foam encounter because there are certain chemicals that are used during the manufacturing of the foam, and those chemicals often have a smell.

We didn’t notice any odor when we unpackaged the Sapira mattress. That is because the mattress is Certi-PUR certified, which means that it is not made with any harsh chemicals that can cause odors. We did find that some users said that they experienced an odor when they first received their Sapira mattress, but they reported that the odor disappeared within just a few hours.

Intimacy

Often, mattresses that are made of foam are not ideal for intimacy activities. That is due to the fact that the foam does not bounce back, which means that more energy needs to be exerted in order to participate in such activities. With the Sapira mattress, this is not an issue at all. The high-density foam offers a great level of bounce back, and the layer of coils also provide excellent bounce back. Additionally, there was very little sinkage, so you don’t get trapped in the mattress, which can make intimacy activities a challenge. In short, you will have no trouble enjoying intimacy on the Sapira mattress.

Sleeping Position Ratings

Different sleep positions require different support for the body. This can be an issue for some mattresses, as they do not provide the proper support for all sleep positions. Here’s a look at what we found about the comfort and support the Sapira mattress offers in each sleep positions.

Back

Back sleepers will really enjoy sleeping on the Sapira mattress. Though it does feel firm at first, the firmness does give way to a softer surface. It also contours nicely to the body, yet doesn’t make you feel trapped. The mattress properly aligns the spine, reducing pain and allowing you to feel well rested.

Back Sleeping score: 9.5/10

Stomach

Stomach sleepers will also enjoy sleeping on the Sapira mattress. It is firm enough so that you won’t feel like you are sinking into the mattress, and therefore trapped; however, it isn’t so firm that you will feel like you are sleeping on a board. It keeps the spine in the proper position while lying on the stomach, preventing any pain in the back, shoulders, and neck.

Stomach Sleeping score: 8.5/10

Side

Side sleepers, too, will find the Sapira mattress comfortable and supportive. We noticed that that the coils were very effective when we were on our side. We also noticed that the added pressure of our body weight allowed us to better engage with the five layers that the mattress offers.

Side Sleeping score: 9.25/10

Bed Frame Compatibility

Though the Sapira mattress can be used on a wide variety of bed frames, we recommend using it with either a solid frame or one that has slats that are not spaced far apart. Doing so will provide the proper support for the mattress so that you can really enjoy it to the fullest. If you are going to place it on a foundation that has slats, make sure that the slats are made of a sturdy material, such as metal or solid wood. If the slats bow too much, it will compromise the comfort and support that the mattress is designed to provide.

Warranty, Guarantee and Trial Period

  • Warranty: 10-year full replacement limited warranty. If you experience any defect in the mattress within 10 years from the purchase date, the manufacturer will either repair or replace it.
  • Guarantee: Full money back guarantee.
  • Trial Period: 100 day and night trial period. If for any reason, you are not satisfied with the Sapira mattress during that 100 day period, you can contact the manufacturer and they will pick it up and fully refund your money.
