What’s It Made From…

The Hyde and Sleep Next-Gen Memory Foam mattress is made of the highest quality foam materials, including next generation memory foam, cooling foam and high-density base foam. All these materials combine to create a mattress that is 10 inches high and delivers great comfort, exceptional support, and it remains cool.

The Top Layer

The first layer of the Hyde and Sleep memory foam mattress is made of memory foam. This is the layer that provides the mattress with the softness that you feel when you first lie on it. The memory foam also contours to the body, making you feel as if you are being ‘hugged.’ This layer also works to cool the mattress, as it is infused with a cooling balm, which helps to absorb body heat and keeps the mattress a consistent temperature while it is in use.

The Middle Layer

The second layer of the mattress is made of a combination of latex and memory foam. This layer allows the mattress to further contour to the body, thanks to the memory foam. The latex provides the mattress with bounce, which makes it easier to get in and out of, and also allows for a better level of intimacy.

The Third Layer

The final layer of the Hyde and Sleep foam mattress is made of high-density foam. This layer has 7 channeled zones, which provides more support where it is needed and less support where it isn’t. The Cover

The Hyde and Sleep memory foam mattress is enveloped in polyester and Elastane blend cover. This material is soft, yet stretchy; when we pulled on it, it bounced right back to its original shape. The fabric is also thick, which makes it highly breathable and improves the overall airflow of the mattress. The cover and upper portion of the sides are white, and the lower portion of the sides are gray in color. Green piping separates the white from the gray, adding a nice pop of color.

While this certainly does make the process of buying your mattress a lot easier, and it also helps to reduce the cost of the mattress, there is one drawback: You can’t try it out before you buy it. As a result, it’s difficult to determine whether or not it will provide the comfort and support that you are looking for.

Firmness

On a firmness scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest, we rate the Next-Gen Memory Foam mattress from Hyde and Sleep a 6. The slightly higher than medium firmness of the mattress makes it comfortable and supportive for the majority of sleepers. The first layer of Next Gen memory foam is soft and hugs the body nicely, but the softness is offset by the transition foam in the middle layer and the support foam on the bottom layer, which provides the mattress with its firmness.

Comfort

Overall, we found that this mattress was extremely comfortable. When first lying on the mattress, you will instantly feel the softness of the cover. The Next Generation memory foam allows the body to sink into the mattress, yet the sink it’s so significant that you feel as if you are being swallowed.

There is minimal motion transfer, which also adds to the comfort that the Hyde and Sleep Next-Gen Memory Foam mattress provides. The foam layers absorb any motion that is created, which means you won’t be disturbed by a sleeping partner and you will be able to enjoy a more restful night of sleep.

Pain Relief and Support

With the Next-Gen Memory Foam mattress from Hyde and Sleep, you will notice an exceptional amount of support. The first layer of memory foam contours to the body, while the second and third layers of denser foam adjust to your body weight. In other words, the heavier points of your body will receive more support, while the lighter points will receive less support, which helps to provide pressure point relief. Your spine will also remain in proper alignment, no matter what position you are sleeping in, which will allow you to wake up pain-free, refreshed and well rested.

Heat Retention

We were very impressed by the limited amount of heat retention of this mattress. The upper layer of memory foam, combined with the breathable cover allow for great air flow. The channels in the support form also assist with airflow, helping to keep the mattress an even temperature. However, we should point out that if you tend to sleep very hot normally, this mattress may not remain as cool as you would like it to. If your cooling needs are on the average side, you will find this mattress should work just fine; however, if you have a higher body temperature, you may experience some issues with heat retention.

Off Gassing

Off gassing is an issue that is commonly experienced with mattresses that are made of foam. The chemicals that are used during the manufacturing process often have a certain smell to them, and that smell can come out of the mattress, especially when it is brand new.

With the Hyde and Sleep Next-Gen Memory Foam mattress, we did notice a slight amount of odor when we first received it. After setting it up, we placed it in a well-ventilated room for a few hours, and the smell did dissipate. We suggest you do the same if you notice any odor when you first receive the mattress.

Intimacy

Mattresses that are made of foam often offer a limited bounce. This is good for comfort, as it minimizes motion transfer; however, it is not necessarily a good thing when you want to engage in intimate activities. Because the foam absorbs movement, it reduces the amount of bounce, which means that you will have to put more effort in when you want to enjoy intimacy activities.

We also tested out how the Next-Gen Memory Foam mattress from Hyde and Sleep accommodates the support needs for different sleeping positions. As you can imagine, each sleeping position requires a different amount of support, which means that a mattress has to be able to accommodate those needs.

Back

This mattress did a good job of providing support and comfort when we were sleeping on our back. Body weight is evenly distributed throughout the mattress, and there was a minimal amount of sinkage. It hugged the body and also provided pressure point relief, providing comfort and support throughout the night while lying on the back.

Stomach

For stomach sleepers, this model of the Hyde and Sleep mattress may seem a bit too soft at first; however, the higher density foams in the center and the foundation of the mattress do quickly start working, and provide the support that is needed to make you feel like you are not being completely enveloped by the mattress. Additionally, because it does keep the spine in proper alignment, you will be able to enjoy greater comfort when sleeping on your stomach.

Side

While lying on the side, we did notice that there was more sinkage than there was when lying on the back or the stomach. That’s because there is more weight placed on the mattress, specifically around the center of the body. Though the mattress does sink more while lying on the side, it does a wonderful job of providing the right amount of support where it is needed, thereby providing pressure point relief.

Bed Frame Compatibility

If you really want to experience the comfort and support that the Hyde and Sleep Next-Gen Memory Foam mattress is designed to provide, we suggest using a bed frame that is either solid or that has durable slats that are not spaced too far apart. If not, you could end up not having the proper support for the mattress, which will impact the overall feel of the mattress.

If you are opting for a bed frame that has slats, we suggest choosing one where the slats are placed no more than 3 inches apart. The slats should also be made of durable wood or metal, which will prevent bending and bowing.
